Testimonial: how to set up an inverted class?

Published on December 18, 2019

Arnaud Corrèze, certified geography teacher at the Lycée Louis Majorelle in Toul, Skolengo administrator and Lycée 4.0 assistance provider, considers Skolengo as a very rich tool in particular with its binder and sections.

Skolengo offers serious potential for establishing dynamic and interactive teaching methods.

The student at the heart of learning

For the student, Skolengo provides an undeniable increase in autonomy in learning know-how, learning in a more dynamic form, raising student confidence, more adapted and individual assistance from the teacher, the possibility of support from friends (working in groups), the possibility of working at their own pace without being rushed along on the same time-scale for all, which can be stressful for the weakest students.

For the teacher, it is a change of perspective. The vertical, uniform transition of knowledge changes to a horizontal transmission where the teacher individually assists, targets difficulties, helps, and stimulates. At the end of the class, the teacher has a finer and personalised “mapping” of the skills that have been acquired or not.

The teacher’s approach

Arnaud Corrèze, geography-history teacher has quite a large bank of personal resources which he permanently feeds into (articles, videos, recordings of programmes, etc.).
For the moment, he uses the blog and the forum in the class space section for moral and civic teaching classes and semi-guided history and geography classes.
" I very simply produced an article on a Moral and Civic Studies debate with one or two short videos, one or two articles of my choice, as in the following example:

  • The students discover the sequence at the beginning of the hour on the blog
  • For about 20-25 minutes, they work on the documents individually and can react on the forum which I created in parallel
  • For the other half hour, we discuss the subject orally
  • Finally, if there is time, each one goes on the forum and writes their opinion there or does it for the following time. This forum can be used at the beginning of the following class "

I do more and more inverted classes using the sections. The design is rather fast and I can easily copy or move an article from the blog to another current class. In addition, the quota of storage space is unlimited in the sections.
