Testimony of Mrs. Alric, headmistress of the Amsterdam School, an annex of the Vincent-Van-Gogh High School of the Hague. Mrs. Alric, headmistress of the school but also music teacher, gives us her feedback on implementing remote teaching.

How have you implemented remote teaching?

“As of the announcement of the lock-down, I put in place, accelerated training to assist in particular, primary school teachers that had not yet handled the solution. They discovered all the features useful for maintaining social and teaching links during this period of remote teaching. I tried my best to transmit my knowledge of the tool , with assistance from the on-line help from Skolengo.”
As of the first week of the lock-down and following this accelerated training, the teachers could accomplish their mission remotely thanks to all the features offered.

What happened in the first week of the lock-down?

“We had a few connection problems, the first three days and then all rapidly returned to order. To avoid the explosion of connections, we have, right from the start of the lock-down, transmitted to the educational community, good connection practices but also the schedule for the distribution of information to families. In the evening before, teachers published homework to do for the next day, in the organiser.

How did you maintain teaching links with your students, remotely?

“Teachers from the Primary school and first year of junior college essentially bused the organiser to distribute work-to-do, to monitor the work delivered by the student and to post corrected papers.”
“Primary school teachers used the blog to create attractive activities. A CM1 (primary school) teacher put activities for their students on line via the blog on topics related to the context: my life in lock-down, will the pollution stop during the lock-down? etc. The students took up the game and replied to what was asked of them using different media (video, image, sound track)”.

Have you succeeded in keeping a social link with families and school staff?

“ I have succeeded in keeping a direct link with school staff and families using the multitude of communication tools integrated into Skolengo.”
“At the start of the lock-down, I created several sections to help teachers, in particular, to fulfil their mission of teaching continuity. The teachers could put teaching videos there to show to parents so that they can ensure teaching continuity at home. I used the messaging service and target communication every day to give parents important information. In this way, the parents had all the information about the schooling.”
“The teaching staff also designed forms for gathering information to know how the learning was going at home.”

What is your first analysis of this “restricted” teaching”?

“I am very pleased to see that the primary school teaching that used another solution just before lock-down, was able to adopt the tool so quickly. We are now all working with a single tool and thus we provide our assistance to teaching continuity with students and parents in a unified way within the school.”

How has your school ensured administrative continuity?

“ The Vincent-Van-Gogh High School in The Hague to which my school is annexed, uses the Skolengo Management and Administration module for billing and registrations for my school. They are satisfied with it.”
“Monitoring of registrations with the dashboard provides real time savings. It is easy to analyse registration folders and to identify missing documents. You just have to click to send your decision to parents and to keep track of the statistics throughout the registration campaign. Sending grouped e-mails to families is also an advantage for ensuring efficient communication without losing time.” Elisabeth Segaud, digital manager at the French Vincent-Van-Gogh High School
« At present, we have a unique tool for managing the global operation of our establishment. This practice of having a single tool for performing all the missions of a school. »

Now that you have an overall vision of Skolengo’s features, can you give us a use in your school that you would like to develop after the lock-down?

“ In the near future, we have to continue to use Skolengo in particular for setting up inverted classes. My goal will be to continue to master the tool better-and better, to adopt it in class every day and the thus adapt the learning depending on the level of the student so as to perform differentiated teaching.”
